Register for STEP

STEP stands for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP is a free service to allow U.S. citizens traveling and living abroad to register their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Those enrolled in STEP will be notified in the event of a disaster, emergency or other crisis, and assisted with evacuation coordination. Even if you do not hold a U.S. passport, you can still enroll in STEP to receive valuable travel advisories and alerts. If you are an international student, we also recommend registering with your home country’s mission at your study abroad destination.

To enter this service, visit “step.state.gov” and select “Enroll a trip and get alerts” to begin.
