Office of Global Engagement

International Exchange & Visitor Program

Each year, Brown welcomes a range of international visitors including exchange undergraduates from partner universities, visiting non-degree student interns, graduate students engaged in coursework or research, and visiting faculty and postdoctoral scholars.

By welcoming this community of international visitors, we strengthen our global connections and advance Brown’s academic values of innovation, impact and collaboration. Whether here for a few weeks, a semester or a year, international visitors are able to engage in Brown courses, conduct research, collaborate with Brown students and faculty, and experience the rich history and diverse cultures of Rhode Island.

International Visiting Undergraduate Exchange Program

International Visitor Program

The Global Brown International Visitor Program (IVP) welcomes international visiting research fellows, graduate students currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree at a postsecondary academic institution outside the United States, short term research scholars, and undergraduate student interns from international partner institutions to Brown.

Application support is available to Brown department sponsors when hosting an affiliated visiting student or scholar. Additionally, Global Brown extends support and connections to community and University resources to students and scholars while at Brown. To explore if your home institution or the home institution of a prospective visiting student or scholar is a participating member of this exchange, please email Global Brown’s program manager, June Spencer for more information.

Visiting Research Fellow (VRF) appointments are available to international students currently enrolled in and pursuing a graduate degree at a postsecondary academic institution. The research they will pursue at Brown will be for their current graduate degree at their home institution.
Sponsorship in these J-1 categories is available to international visitors who have the minimum of the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree and academic credentials and experience in the field they will be associated with at Brown.
Undergraduate Student Intern appointments are available to international students currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree at a postsecondary academic institution outside the United States whose U.S. internship will fulfill the educational objectives for a current degree program at their home institution.
