Office of Global Engagement

Partnerships

Our global partnerships enrich academic inquiry and scientific discovery.

Brown University’s global partnerships provide opportunities for Brown students to learn and engage in research across borders and support for faculty to conduct globally focused research. The bidirectional nature of many of our partnerships also provides opportunities for international visiting and exchange students, visiting scholars, and visiting faculty to come to Brown, where they can participate in various educational activities.

Today, Brown is focused on strengthening existing global partnerships while pioneering new partner relationships. Our approach to global partnership cultivation prioritizes topics and fields of inquiry aligned with Brown’s strategic priorities. Brown’s global partnerships foster and implement a diverse range of educational practices, pedagogies, and experiences, from digitally connecting classrooms across continents to bringing students and scholars together for transnational and translational learning and research.

Types of Global Partnerships

The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) supports the development of institutional partnerships which demonstrate one or more of the following elements:

  • Student exchange and mobility programs
  • Faculty mobility programs
  • Academic and research exchanges
  • Short-term professional training
  • Experiential learning programs

Initiate a Global Partnership

The Office of Global Engagement at Brown University facilitates new partnerships through a process involving proposal discussion and alignment with unit priorities. Faculty proposing partnerships follow steps including submission, review, draft agreement development and finalization.

Renew a Global Partnership

It is important to plan ahead when thinking about initiating the renewal of an existing institutional agreement. We recommend starting the agreement renewal process minimally 6 months prior to the expiration date of the current agreement. To initiate an agreement renewal, faculty/departments should submit an International Collaboration Activity Report to the Office of Global Engagement.

Following review and pre-approval from the Provost's Office, OGE will work with the faculty/department(s), and the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) to complete the agreement renewal process.
