Post-Acceptance

Visiting students can learn more about how to access Brown's systems, including insurance waivers and billing statements.

***These instructions apply to students from Visiting (non-Brown, non-CASA) Schools only.***

Accessing Brown’s Systems

Brown University uses the Banner Student Information System to manage student records, and your student ID is often referred to as your Banner ID. Each student will be assigned a Banner ID and will often be asked to provide this number when communicating with Brown University.

In addition, your Brown student account is the username and password you use to access most Brown online services. To activate your Brown student account and to activate your Brown student email address, you will need your Brown ID number. If required by the Brown system, you may also need to set up two-step verification as an additional security step.

Health Insurance & Waiver

Visiting Students on a Brown/CASA study abroad program will be billed automatically for the Brown Student Health Insurance Plan, unless the Haylor, Freyer & Coon online waiver is completed prior to the waiver deadline. If you already have a comparable health insurance plan through your home university or through your parents' health care benefits, you may wish to consider waiving the Brown student health insurance plan; otherwise, you will be billed for it.

Please take time to examine your university's student health insurance policy or your parents' plan. Remember you will only be able to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan if you have other comparable insurance in place.

Complete the health insurance waiver form through Haylor, Freyer & Coon Student Insurance.  If the waiver instructs you to provide your email address, please enter the email address associated with your Brown/CASA study abroad application, as this is the email address associated with your official record at Brown.

Please contact Brown Health Services at studenthealthinsuranceplan@brown.edu or 401.863.1703, or check the Health Services Website if you have questions about the insurance waiver process.

The Brown SHIP waiver deadline for Spring 2024 is Thursday, February 1, 2024. After this date, you will be charged for the insurance, and a refund is not available.

Student Financial Services & Billing

All Visiting Students participating in one of Brown's Global Programs will pay Brown tuition. Please visit the Student Financial Services website for more details.

Once you activate your Brown account, you will also have access to your Brown electronic billing statements. The payment deadline for Spring 2024 is Monday, January 1, 2024.

As a reminder, it is your responsibility to confirm payment arrangements for your semester abroad with your home school study abroad office so that you are aware of the charges you are responsible for paying to Brown and what charges, if any, are paid by your home school.

You may log in to view your billing statement or to make a payment.

Authorized Users: Students who depend on parents/guardians to make payments to their student account are strongly encouraged to assign their parents/guardians Authorized User access to their billing records. Authorized Users have access to view statements and account details, and to remit electronic payments; they do not have access to any other student records. Follow these instructions to assign Authorized User access.
